Sickness benefit

If you don’t receive your salary while you’re off sick, you can receive sickness benefit from your employer for the first 30 days of your illness. You must be a member of an A-kasse (unemployment insurance fund) to receive sickness benefit.

To qualify for sickness benefit, you must have been employed for a minimum of 8 weeks and worked 74 hours within those 8 weeks.

If you have been on sickness benefit for 30 days and you’re still sick, your employer must report this to Gentofte Kommune. After that Gentofte Kommune will be responsible for paying your sickness benefit.

So that Gentofte Kommune can pay out your sickness benefit, you must fill in a form at mitsygefravaer.dk. You must do this after you receive a letter about sick pay from Gentofte Kommune in your e-Boks.

If you’re unemployed and qualify for unemployment benefit, you will receive unemployment benefit from your A-kasse (unemployment insurance fund) for the first 14 days of your illness. If you’re still ill after 14 days, Gentofte Kommune will start to pay out your sickness benefit.

If you’re unemployed, you can receive sickness benefit after the first 14 days of your illness if you’re a member of an A-kasse (unemployment insurance fund) and you qualify for unemployment benefit.

If you’re unemployed and you receive financial aid from Gentofte Kommune, you’ll continue to receive your usual benefit.

Remember to do as follows:

• report yourself unfit for work at jobnet.dk
• tell your place of work or place of education that you’re sick, for example if you’re on work experience, receiving subsidised wages or are taking a course. If you’re sick for a long time, you will need to discuss matters with your advisor. This will involve discussing the impact of your sickness on your capacity for starting a job.

If you’re self-employed, you’re entitled to sickness benefit after two weeks of illness.
Gentofte Kommune pays your sickness benefit.

You can receive sickness benefit in the following circumstances:

• You’ve been self-employed for at least 6 out of the last 12 months. If you’ve been self-employed for less than 6 months, your previous job will be included in the count.
• You’ve been working at least 18.5 hours a week.
• You report yourself unfit for work via NemRefusion

You can be certified as partially fit if, after illness, you are unable to work full time.

You can get help from the Job Centre to create a plan of when and what hours you can work. The Job Centre helps and provides coaching for unemployed people seeking jobs or training. You can also be partially off sick during periods when you can’t work full time due to illness or treatment.
