Activities for children and young people

Gentofte is also a municipality for children and young people. We have playgrounds, sports clubs and cultural offerings to give children and young people fun experiences in their leisure time.

Libraries

Children can play and read books in lots of languages at Gentofte Kommune’s libraries. They can also attend concerts and theatre productions or use their creativity in workshops.

Sports clubs

Gentofte has lots of sports clubs where children can do sports and become part of a community. There’s something for everyone, whether your child is into basketball, gymnastics or tennis.

Anyone can sign up, and you pay a membership fee.

Some families may qualify for financial aid with the membership fee. This aid is known as a leisure pass. To find out if you qualify for aid, please write to fritid@gentofte.dk  Put “Fritidspas” [leisure pass] in the subject line.

Kildeskovshallen swimming centre

The swimming centre provides space for both exercise and play. There are pools for babies and children and a diving pool with diving boards and a slide for the daredevils.

There are also 25 m and 50 m pools for swimming in lanes.Kildeskovshallen is at Adolphsvej 25, 2820 Gentofte.

Playgrounds

There are 14 public playgrounds located throughout Gentofte Kommune, with space for fun activities and play. The playgrounds provide opportunities for everything from ballgames to water games, so there’s something for children of all ages.

Skateboarding and roller skating parks

There are lots of opportunities for skateboarding and roller-skating in Gentofte. There are two different facilities, with levels of difficulty suitable for all ages and stages.

Jägers skateboarding park is open to all and located in Gentofte Sportspark, close to Jægersborg Station.

Holmehaven’s skateboarding and roller-skating facilities are near the Vangede Fritidscenter (Leisure Centre), and share their location with a pitch for ballgames and roller hockey in Holmehaven Park.

Youth communities in Byens Hus and Vangede

Gentofte’s Byens Hus youth communities in Hellerup and Vangede are for everyone between 13 and 25 years of age. You can freely try out your own ideas with other young people here. 

Byens Hus is located at Hellerupvej 22-26, 2900 Hellerup

Musikbunkeren (the music bunker)

Musikbunkeren is a club and creative space for young musicians between 15 and 25 years of age.

In Musikbunkeren, young people can:

  • Play alone or in bands in one of the rehearsal rooms.
  • Give concerts using Musikbunkeren’s shared stage area.
  • Learn how to write songs and produce music.
  • Participate in social events.Be part of the Musikbunkeren community – and much more besides. 

Musikbunkeren has been fitted out in an old bunker beneath Bernstorff Slotspark at Jægersborg Allé 111, 2820 Gentofte.

Garderhøj Fort

At Garderhøj Fort, you can explore the history of war, life as a soldier, and defences from the First World War era.

There are activities, games and role-playing games for children of all ages.

Experimentarium

Experimentarium is the science centre for the whole of Denmark. Here, children can learn new things through play, set up experiments and learn about science and technology hands-on.

Gentofte has a wide range of museums and cultural experiences. There are films, theatre productions, art installations and much more for children and adults alike.
