Public libraries

You’ll need a health insurance card to register. The card works as your library card in all Gentofte’s libraries.

To register, just come to any of Gentofte’s libraries and ask to see the librarian. You can also register by phoning the library. If you’ve registered by phone, you’ll have to show your ID card the first time you visit the library.

When you’ve found something you’d like to borrow, use the library’s self-service facility to check out. You’ll need your health insurance card and the PIN you created.

You can borrow most library books for 28 days. You can renew at genbib.dk. Some books have a shorter lending period and can’t be renewed.

You can return your book to any of the six Gentofte Kommune libraries. It doesn’t matter which library you borrowed it from.

You’re welcome to use the library’s computers. You can also access the Internet at the library from your own wireless devices.

You can practise your Danish language skills at danskcafé with other new Danes and language ambassadors. You’ll get help with pronunciation and learning the language. All are welcome, and you don’t have to sign up.

You can come to English Café to speak English. If you’re a beginner, you can practise here. If you’re fluent in English, you can help others by talking with them. There’s no charge for taking part, and you don’t have to sign up.

Yes, you’re welcome to print at the library. All you need is a print account. You can open an account from your computer or at the library. The librarian at the library can also help you.

There’s a lot you can do with children at the library! They can play and read books in lots of languages.

There are also concerts, theatre productions and creative workshops for children.

You can borrow audio books, e-books and much more, from home! eReolen has more than 5,000 titles in English.

At the ‘book exchange’ outdoor sculptures, you can take a book to keep, free of charge! You can also donate an old book for someone else to enjoy. It’s all about giving old books a new lease of life.

There are five Bogbørsen book exchanges in Gentofte Kommune:
