What do I have to remember when moving?

• Report your move and choose a new doctor via self-service.
• Put your name on your new mailbox so you can receive your new health insurance card.
• Read your electricity and gas meters at your old home. You must also remember to notify your electricity and gas supplier that you are moving.
• Notify your insurance if you are moving to a different postcode area or a different type of home.
• Notify newspapers, magazines or clubs/associations that you subscribe to.
• Notify your dentist and other private therapists of your move.
• Tell your employer that you are moving.
• Adjust your mileage allowance for tax purposes at SKAT, if this changes.

You report your move digitally via self-service. You must report your move to the municipality you are moving to. The earliest you can do this is 28 days before you move, and up to five days after moving. You may be fined if you are late in reporting your move.

When you report your move, you must also choose your doctor. You will be sent a new health insurance card showing your new address and your doctor 14 days after your move.

PostNord, schools, daycare facilities and Udbetaling Danmark (the benefits disbursement authority) will be automatically notified of your move.

When you receive your new health insurance card, you must cut up your old health insurance card.

If you’re staying abroad for more than 6 months, you will need to register your move with the National Registry.

If you’re staying abroad for less than 6 months, you can ask the National Registry to allow your home in Denmark to remain registered for you while you’re away. This requires your home to be fully at your disposal while you are abroad.

That means you must not let or lend your home while you are abroad.
