There are various types of taxes to pay when you live and work in Denmark. Here is some general information on how the Danish tax system works.

Good to know

  • Many of the public services we enjoy in Denmark, such as free schooling and medical care, are financed through the taxes we pay.
  • When you work in Denmark, you pay tax on your salary and you must have a Danish tax card.
  • If you own a property, you must pay property tax to the municipality.
  • Your taxes are calculated based on a preliminary tax return where you indicate how much you expect to earn during the year.
  • Each year in March, you’ll receive an annual statement showing a summary of your tax position over the past year. This shows whether you have overpaid or underpaid your taxes.
