Waste and recycling

The recycling centre is at Ørnegårdsvej 15, 2820 Gentofte.
The recycling centre is open:

• Monday to Friday 8 am – 6 pm
• Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays 10 am – 6 pm.

It is closed on 24, 25, 26 and 31 December and 1 January.

You can also access the recycling centre during unmanned hours:

• Monday to Friday 7 am – 8 am and 6 pm – 9 pm
• Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays: 7 – 10 am and 6 – 9 pm

If you live in a house, by default you will have:

• A partitioned bin for food waste and residual waste
• A partitioned bin for glass and paper
• A partitioned bin for plastic and metal
• A red box for hazardous waste and small electronic devices.

The property has bins in the outdoor communal area. You can sort your waste in these. The signs by the bins tell you what type of waste you can put in them.

You can exchange your bin for a bigger one or have an extra bin if you often run out of space for waste in your bin.
There is no extra charge for exchanging recycling bins. You will be charged more for waste collection if you have a bigger bin for residual waste.

You can dispose of more than 40 different types of waste at the recycling centre. All containers have signs so you can put your waste in the right containers.

The recycling area includes:

• a building for hazardous waste and electronics
• a building for reusable items and furniture  
• a place for garden waste
• a cupboard for used books.

You can take your well-maintained household items to ‘direkte genbrug/direct recycling’ at the recycling centre.

Your items will be done up and sold on via the iGenbrug shop at Stolpegårdsvej 24, 2820 Gentofte. Then others can benefit from your stuff.

iGenbrug is run by people who otherwise find it difficult to get into work.

Gentofte Kommune has a fortnightly kerbside collection of bulky waste.

If you live in a block of flats, there is an outdoor communal area where you can leave bulky waste. If in doubt, please contact the waste manager for your property.

Gentofte Kommune collects garden waste fortnightly.
If you live in a villa or terraced house, your waste calendar will show when we collect garden waste from your address.

The bins must be easily accessible for us to empty. Access to the bins must therefore be level, smooth and easy for wheeling the bins. It is important not to obstruct access with bicycles, garden tools or anything else when we are emptying the bins.

If you live in a villa or terraced house, you can order a composting container via self-service. If you live in a block of flats, your property’s waste manager will order the compost container. We will deliver the container within 14 days and leave it beside your bins.

The compost container is 92 cm high and has a maximum diameter of 80 cm. Its capacity is 310 litres.

You are responsible for keeping your bins clean. If you live in a block of flats, the owner or caretaker keeps the bins clean.

When it’s time to collect your environmental waste, we’ll replace your box with a new, clean one. So you don’t have to clean it.

If one of your bins is damaged, we’ll repair the damage or give you a new bin instead.

We try to repair and deliver bins as soon as possible, within a few days. You don’t need to be at home. Leave the bin in a prominent place at your property.

There’s no additional charge to have your bin repaired or replaced.

There’s also no charge for repairing or replacing 240-litre garden waste bins. Be sure to leave it empty.

Villas and terraced houses have a red environmental box for collecting hazardous waste and small electronic items. You can also put pieces of broken ceramics, porcelain and crystal in the box.

You will need to register your box for collection when you want it replaced with an empty box. If you don’t register your box, it won’t be collected!

If you’re enrolled in the text message and e-mail scheme, you can receive a reminder about collection and use a code to register your box easily.

Leave the box next to the bins before 7 am on your kerbside collection day. Please note that the box must not weigh more than 12 kg and it must be packed for safe transportation.
