Housing allowance

Housing allowance is financial help to pay your rent. Udbetaling Danmark (the benefits disbursement authority) is responsible for housing allowance. 

If you rent your home and it has its own kitchen, you may be able to get housing allowance. It must be your home all year round.

The amount of housing allowance you can get depends on:

• Your rent
• The size of your home
• The number of people in your household
• Household income.

If several of you share a home, only one person can receive housing allowance. Housing allowance is paid to the person making the application or to the housing association, which will deduct the amount from the rent.

If you are in a cooperative housing society or you are an owner-occupier, you can only apply for housing allowance if you are early-retired or on a disability pension, or if you receive a State pension.

Housing allowance for cooperative housing or owner-occupied homes is paid as a loan. You have to repay the loan when you sell your home.

Housing deposit loans are a loan you can apply for when you need to pay a deposit for your new home. The loan covers the deposit in full and is paid directly to the housing association.

You qualify for a housing deposit loan if:

• Your home is situated in Gentofte Kommune
• Your home is a part of a subsidised housing scheme
• Your home was first occupied after 1 April 1964
• Your household income does not exceed DKK 216,241 – add DKK 38,000 per child up to 4 children 

For the first five years, the loan is interest-free and there are no instalments. After the first five years, interest starts to become payable on the loan and you will have to start repaying the loan. The loan will have a fixed interest rate of 4.5% p.a. We will set up a monthly repayment plan when we grant you the loan.
