School enrolment 2025

The public schools will hold information meetings between 12 November 2024 and 21 November 2024 for incoming 0th grade for the school year of 2025/2026. Here you have the opportunity to form an impression of the individual school. There is no registration for the meetings, and you are welcome to participate in all meetings.

To enrol your child in a public school, you must use an online enrolment solution. To use the online enrolment solution, you need your MitID.

Online enrolment is possible from the 12 of November 2024 to the 10 of January 20225.

Public schools will host information meetings from the 12 to the 21 of November 2024, depending on the school.

School enrolment 

In kindergarten, your child is well on the way in preparing for a life as a school student. You can support your child by actively participating in these preparations.

A close collaboration between kindergartens, schools and parents is of great importance for children’s well-being, learning and development.

We want your child to experience a smooth transition to life as a student, regardless of where the child comes from and which school the child goes to.

All children must, as a main rule, start in grade 0 the year they turn 6 years old.

However, if you are in doubt whether your child is ready to start school, please discuss this with your kindergarten. Based on your meeting you fill in an application form, which describes why you and the kindergarten believes that postponing starting school is the right decision.

The application form must be approved and signed by the school principal on the nearest public school.

You will receive the decision in your e-Boks.

If the postponement is granted, you will automatically receive an invitation to register at the online enrolment solution the following year.

Please note, that if your child has special needs, the application form is different. Find more information in the section below.

Application for postponement of school start 2025

You can only use the below application form for postponed school start if your child meets one or more of the following criteria:

• Your child is enrolled in a daycare facility, which operates by Serviceloven §32.
• Your child is enrolled in one of the following competence centres in the municipality: Dalgården, Lunden, Baunegården, Lykkesholm or Jægersborg børnehus dept. Solsiden or Sauntesvej.
• Your child has been granted more than 9 hours of special support the year of starting school.

If you want your child to change schools, please contact the principal at your child’s current school and fill out a school change form.

When moving to Gentofte Kommune your child will be offered a place at one of our eleven public schools, where there is a place in the year group.

If your child is to start in grades 0-3, your child will be offered a place at a school within a walking distance of your residence of no more than 2.5 km.
